Why does our local vicar not allow flowers in the church during Advent? He is not happy about greenery either!?

Our art exhibition is usually held in the local church, but not always on December 4th and 5th as it is this year. We usually like to decorate our individual own art display space. As I am not a church go-er, I do not know the thinking behind this. Could you explain please?
