Can I use Epsom Salt as a desiccant to add to the box my cat's corpse is in?

My cat died yesterday, she's in a box. Can I just add sand, or is there another compound to preserve her until the ground thaws. I don't want to put her in the freezer. Anything to add for neutralizing the odor?
