What if your grand parents or great grand parents were guilty of a lynching, race riot, or other event?

For instance, the loving old man you know, had been involved in a lynching, race riot. Was in the KKK, an old SS soldier, a communist, anarchist, or he killed German POWs in the war? How would that make you feel about that relative? Do you think that the old person you know or knew was the same person back then. I don't think so, especially if they were very young, teens, early 20's.
